OpenSource Usability Labs
OpenSource is the future. But it is different: different in ideas, different in development and different in business models. Therefore it is time for a different service which offers interface and interaction excellence for more successful OpenSource products – the OpenSource Usability Labs.
The idea
Although ease of use is essential for successful products, integrating usability into OpenSource products has until now been very much reliant on idealistic volunteers.
The OpenSource Usability Labs are changing this situation. We understand OpenSource and we understand usability. Together we are finding ways to co-operate professionally in user-centric development.
The OpenSource Usability Labs help your open source product achieve excellence in interface and interaction design. This will enable your business model to become even more successful.
The initiator
The OpenSource Usability Labs are an initiative from Apliki.
The mind behind the idea is Björn Balazs. Björn is a pioneer and well known expert in OpenSource usability. He is also one of the initiators of the Open Usability movement, a jury member for the Trophées du libre and has worked voluntarily on numerous OpenSource Projects.
Together and open
The OpenSource Usability Labs are devoted to the idea of open source: together with our partners, we will be publishing what we do and how we do it under a creative commons licence. We will also be developing OpenSource tools for achieving excellence in OpenSource usability.
Who is it aimed at?
We are offering our services to companies or company co-operations that develop business models in open source. If you are interested, please feel free to contact us. For non-commercial open source projects, please consider the Open Usability voluntary initiative.
Our partners
As Mao said: “A journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step”. The OpenSource Usability Labs have just recently launched their services. We are proud to be working together with Metaways Infosystems on Tine 2.0 – our first project.
Please take a look at the work we are doing and feel free to comment and contribute!
